Oct 5 update
The planned redevelopment of 41 Exhibition St, the Institute’s Melbourne home, has seen significant progress this month.
The final planning permits have now been issued and demolition is scheduled to commence early November. Hickory Group, who is managing the build, anticipates that construction will begin early in 2012 and that the redevelopment will be complete at the end of 2012/early 2013.
Hickory is one of Australia’s largest building companies. Based in Richmond, the company has over 150 employees and has been involved in some of Melbourne’s most recent innovative projects, including 50 Albert Rd in South Melbourne, Vogue in South Yarra, ARK in Richmond and Little Hero Apartments in Melbourne’s CBD.
With demolition mere weeks away, the Institute’s Melbourne-based business units – the Victorian Chapter, Knowledge Services and National Office Melbourne – will be relocating to temporary premises at the end of this month. As the new premises are not equipped with a shop front, Architext will be moving to a separate city location. Members will soon be notified of new contact details, but most phone numbers will stay the same. In the meantime, if you have any questions or comments relating to the redevelopment, please contact the Institute at 41exhibition@architecture.com.au
